 AMRC's exciting new Apprenticeship programme, which will commence in September 2014, is open for applications
 
The Engineering & Manufacturing Apprenticeship programme runs for 3 years.  
Successful candidates will be employed by an Advanced Manufacturing company. 

AMRC will be offering 5 different Engineering pathways:

- Mechanical Engineering
- Engineering Maintenance
- Fabrication & Welding
- Engineering & Technical Support (ie design, materials etc)
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
 
Requirements: 
Candiates must have or expect to achieve 5 GCSEs (A- C) including Maths, English and a Science. 
 
Relevant A levels or a Level 3 qualification would be beneficial. 
 
Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate:
  • Good communication skills
  • Team work
  • An excellent work ethic
  • A passion for Engineering 
Training:  
A 3 year Advanced Level Apprenticeship.  Components within the framework will include:

·         NVQ – Level 3 Diploma in Engineering & Manufacturing
·         NVQ PEO/PMO – Level 2
·         Pathway specific technical certificate Level 3
·         PLTS – Personal learning and thinking skills -  Level 2

First year will be spent at the AMRC Training Centre. 
NVQ level 3 will be delivered in the workplace in year 2 and 3.
 
Pay:  Minimum pay is £2.68/hour to start.  Some employers will pay higher rates of pay.

Research in Science, Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry.


 
On Friday 21st March, 4pm-8pm, the University of Sheffield's laboratories and lecture theatres will be open to the public for a host of talks, demonstrations and hands on activities based around our research in Science, Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry.
 

There will be mini lectures, exciting science demonstrations and hands on activities for primary and secondary school children, and for adults.

Find out about everything from elephant behaviour to dentistry, from stem cells to the search for alien life.  If you've ever wanted to put on a lab coat and extract some DNA, listen to a mini-lecture about parasites, see yourself in infra-red, tour the research facilities, or taste liquid nitrogen ice cream then come along. Everyone is very welcome and the event is free.  No booking required.
